01 / THE ORIGIN

HOW DOES ONE GET STARTED?

I love straitjackets—the design, the history, the experience of wearing one, and all the different reasons people find them fascinating. For some, the curiosity starts with magicians and escape artists. For others, it's photography, being restrained, or simply wondering what it feels like to be stuck in your own hug. When I first became interested in straitjackets, finding one to experience was a struggle. Jackets were expensive and not readily available. Now, several years into my journey, it feels like time to share my love for straitjackets with others. I wanted people to struggle in a straitjacket, not struggle to get one. So I started designing an entry-level straitjacket.

02 / START EXPLORING

A BETTER BEGINNING.

The goal was straightforward, even if getting there wasn't: make the best entry-level straitjacket I could while keeping the price under $100. A good first jacket should feel exciting, look fantastic in photographs, and hold up to being worn and enjoyed. The Experimentalist and Asylum Adventurer are two different answers to that challenge. Neither is supposed to be a disposable novelty—and hopefully neither will be the only straitjacket you ever purchase.

THREE MATERIALS. THREE PERSONALITIES.

Synthetic leather, canvas, and real leather have entirely different personalities. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, but all three make excellent straitjackets.

THE SMALL DETAILS ARE THE WHOLE POINT.

Stitching, strap placement, hardware, zipper access, shape, and fit: it wasn't a one-and-done process. Working with a manufacturer means samples, changes, and then customers finding new things we can improve. It's not about claiming perfection. What I offer over other entry-level products is the care and connection to keep improving them.

06 / THINGS I'VE COLLECTED

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.

I've picked up all sorts of odd restraint equipment over the years. Sometimes it's a historic straitjacket, sometimes it's a piece of hardware I hadn't seen before, and sometimes I bring home something so big that I probably should have measured the doorway for first. One of those unexpected niche specialties I've developed is restoring and selling restraint chairs.

07 / LITTLE THINGS, LOTS OF COLORS

THOSE LITTLE LOCKING PINS.

I also sell SEGUFIX-style locking pins and keys. It all started with an escape that shouldn't have been possible. Yet now I have a whole other set of inventory to manage.
